Powell Thompson

Powell Thompson a native of Austin, Texas, has 47 years of experience in banking. He began his banking career with Texas Commerce Bank Lubbock, Texas while in business school at Texas Tech University, returning to Austin in 1980 where he has worked for both large publicly traded banks as well as smaller community banks. He has been personally responsible for the opening of several de novo branches. Powell recently retired from Wolfforth; Texas based American Bank of Commerce (ABC) where he spent the last 29 years of his career. During his tenure with ABC, he oversaw the establishment of banking operations in Austin, Dallas, Colorado Springs, and Pueblo Colorado. Starting as a Senior Vice President and lender he served as President and Chief Executive Officer and retired as Vice Chairman of the board. Under his leadership ABC grew from 3 locations and $179 million in assets to 14 locations and just shy of $1.5 billion in assets. Powell serves and has served on a number of community and civic organizations including, Chairman of the American Heart association, Board member of Rodeo Austin, Founding board member of the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children Texas, advisory board member Caritas Austin, Chairman of the Bachelors of Austin, Treasurer of the Admirals Club, Treasurer and President of the Austin Country Club, and board member of The Hannon Society.
